Hi, I have a 1994 W202 C200 with this Becker Headunit. My issue is that someone has entered the wrong code too many times and now the radio has got stuck in this 'CODE ERROR' mode. I have the correct code with me but I am unable to enter it as the radio is stuck on this screen and will not let me type.

Note: Things I've tried
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery after leaving for over 24 hours.
  • Disconnecting the connectors at the back of the radio and reconnecting.
  • Leaving it turned on hoping it would reset but nothing happens.

I believe this is different from the typical 'WAIT' message that you get after entering the code wrong three times.

I am the first owner of this car from new and I have the original radio card with all the codes.

Any suggestions no matter how weird is appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi, Yes I have the original radio card with the code however it is stuck with this message and nothing happens when I

The model is Becker exquisit BE1491 I'll attach the model info below.

Ashanegun,

Try this here, and see if your code is correct. ----> www.radio-code.lt

With multiple failed attempts, I believe the radio needs to reset itself with power on for at least 1 hour or less. Once you see the word "code" displayed, you can then enter the correct code.

EDIT:
No need to double post. ---------> Help! Radio stuck on "WAIT" after battery...

Hi thank you. I’ll check the code out through the link. Although I am very sure my code is correct as I ordered this car brand new in 1994 and am the first owner of it to date so I still have the radio card I got from my dealer in 94 and have not replaced the factory unit at any point during ownership.
No matter how long I leave the car it does not reset back to the point where you can enter a code 😩

Update: I checked the code with the website and wow it's pretty cool and yes the code I have is correct. Thank you

Note: This is not a double post as my issue is different to the WAIT message my thing is stuck on CODE ERR and I didn't seem to find a single other post with that issue

In USA dealer reset the radio for no charge, so worth checking if it the same in your country.
Looks to me that your radio went into limp mode and that is why even correct code is not working.

Ashanagun ,,, no i can find nothing on that error ,. Also your up the creek without a paddle but the serial number and model numbers are unreadable ,. Other than one post that said it was through the wrong code being put in to the radio .On some ypu have to hold one or more buttons to clear that err code .Also the radio alarm is wired in to the radio so might that have something to do with it >

Yes, I am in quite a unique situation. Also, its a mechanic that has entered the code incorrectly too many times after disconnecting the battery for a repair.

I will attach the radio card below it has the model and serial number.

Yes, I have the original manual as well but that only tells me what to do when you get the code wrong and get the WAIT message but does not have anything on CODE ERR. I will go through it one more time just in case I missed it. Thank you.

Just so you have a proper understanding of what a double post is.
You have posted this issue here, in this "General MB" forum.

You have also posted the very same issue under the w202 forum --------->

Update on the situation and case closed

My email to Becker gave me the answer to my problem. I will paste their reply below.

‘If the code was entered too many times wrong the radio would display WAIT.
CODE ERR message means the radio is defective and will need to be repaired/replaced.‘

So it’s a faulty headunit that needs to be replaced. Hope this helps someone else in future.

thank you everyone for your support and input
