I did a search and most of the solutions say to replace the radio. I kinda like the unit and I don't have the money for the deck I would want right now. I'm a bit of an audiophile so I can't not have music.

What does it mean when it displays '-----'? Do I have to get an unlock code etc etc?

I am not 100% sure of how it is for the 1988 and older radio's... but you may need a 4 digit pass code to activate the radio. On 1989+ models... you can take out the radio, take down the serial number and ask a friendly person at the local dealership if they could get you the code.

good luck!

Yea just call the dealer and they will give you the code. I hear it takes less than 5 minutes. Good Luck!

if it is the original radio you only need your VIN number and they can get you the code.

Do I just call any dealership? I don't have any within a 100 mile radius of me.

How do you enter the code? Is there any confirmation? It doesn't seem to change when I press anything.

Try *

Need to verify, but I seem to recall needing to press the asterisk (*) 1st, then enter the 4-digit code. Was glad the PO broke that rule, by writing the code down in the Owners Manual

Went to the dealership, they first told me there was no code, then I gave them the serial number of the unit. They gave me a code, but there was no way to input it so the damn thing is still locked.

Isn't it performed by pressing the #1 button x times (the first digit of the code) and so on?

I'll try that.

So for the code: 4710

I would press '#1' 4 times, then 7 times then 1 then 0 times?

No. You press #2 7 times. #3 1 time. ) seems to be a problem.
might need to press a final button to enter. Nothing in the archives?

I heard that there is no code for these radios. It is locked out because of the anti theft device. It can either be the fuse or it is something you have to pay $75 for. That's just fucking bullshit. These tuners suck right? Why wouldn't I Just put it toward a quality unit? I'm going to open it up and see if I can't just fix this thing myself.

So I'm thinking about driving to the nearest Mercedes Dealership (about an hour away) and having them fix the anti theft device. Is this something that is going to cost me money? I think I'd rather take that money and put it toward a new deck if they are going to do that. What do you think?

Try this I recall seeing this on another mercedes site trying to find it but can't...

Type in the 5 digit code and press seek, should start right up with the stations saved too.
