Becker 780 repair journey-success

Decided to reinstall the original becker into my 88 560sl. Talked to the local dealer, Tafel in Louisville ky, the wise old parts guy remembers working on the 780 back in the day, but they gave the tool away, needed to unlock the anti theft, years ago to a local electronics co. talked to the owner and he said bring it in tues and he will check it out for free, if he can remember where to tool is. He said there are 2 capacitors that may be bad and need changed, if so I will make it a fall project. will update

As far as I know the 780 does not need a special tool but uses a code that needs to be entered. The 754 that was in the 86-87 SL needs a tool to get activated. If any doubts talk to the guys at Becker Autosound in NJ.

You can send it to Becker (for a few coins), and they can disable the anti-theft... Also, add aux input if that is something you might want.

so far so good, took it into the electronics guy, he did not give me much hope, but he found the unlocking tool. The tool is the size of a snickers bar, white plastic and a red and green button with a indicating red light. It plugged into the port the face plate plugs into. He supplied power to the radio and pushed the red and green buttons and it came on. No charge Brought it home plugged it in and works great. He said it may work a day or for years. thanks Roberts Electronics Louisville ky
