i know that this might sound like a stupid question, but i have to ask my 81 300sd needs a battery the old one on it has 820 crank amps, if i try to put a battery with 520 crank amps will the car still start or do it need the 820 crank amps to start the car any infor would be helpful newbie here[?]

No, in fact you should have an 850 CCA battery. You need a good burn from the glow plugs and the starter needs a good spin to get the diesel running.

The battery needs some reserve from the glow plug burn – I don’t remember what the amps are off hand and then the engine needs to turn fast enough to start compression ignition, the starter needs enough juice for that – diesels need strong batteries.

Yup!! Go with the most CCA you can find, it is worth it in the long run, trust me, I speak from experience!!!

I’d say that’s true for all 126s, considering all the power features and heavy-duty systems and components.

Stick with group 49's. If the auto parts store doesn't know what to look for, just ask for "the widest battery you have in stock".
