My battery died after a 80km drive.

I bought a new one thinking it was just a bad battery.

Immediately as I connected the terminals of the new battery, the little green light on the battery went to black - good to bad...

Anyone know what would cause that? I dont know too much about the autoelectrical system.

:(

Any aftermarket stereo equipment installed? Also, start the car and put a volt meter on the battery terminals. You need no less than 13.4 volts showing while the car is running. If that's not the case, the likely culprit is your voltage regulator. It is on the back of the alternator, held in place by 2 phillips screws. Takes about 15 min to change out. Online they go for a bit less than $30, at NAPA, approx $40.

Good luck and report back

The old voltage regulator in picture.

Thanks for the reply.
The battery is not fully charged - but here were the readings.

With the engine off: 12.07
Engine idling: 11.60
After turned off engine: 11.88

I am charging a new battery, and will go and buy a new voltage regulator,
and will do the test after I have replaced both fully charged new battery, and
the voltage regulator.

Apparently it should then read about 14.55 ?

Thanks for the help.

13.8 to maybe 14 would be fine. You don't want to get near 15v or you'll cook the battery.

Also, change out all or your fuses to the copper type and check the blade fuse in your OVP relay. You may want to consider replacing the OVP with the upgraded two fuse type. Ovp's are know failure items. Use only MB or KAL(her), all others are junk.

Battery and starting problems too...

Eventially I got the new REGULATOR HYBRID part no. 1 197 311 018 from MBSpecialist.com. (Aqunor Oy Finland).

With the engine off the reading from the battery is: 11.89
With engine running about 2000rpm reading is only: 13.25
The battery is not fully charged with this test.

Also I can drive about 20km and then when I turn off the engine, then
try to turn on engine again - it will turn over and over but will not start the engine. Eventially the battery will be dead. Any advice what would cause that problem?

Are these plug specs ok for my engine: DENSO T20EP-U

Thanks for any future advice.
