Hi Guys - Newbie on here! Hoping someone can help me!

My Mercedes S320 CDI - 2003 Model has been parked up for the last three weeks.

I got into the car yesterday to start it, with no luck! I am certain the battery is fully dead as the car was turning over very slugishly...but now nothing happens.

I have heard that if you try jump starting the S320 with another car...it can cause the electrics in the car to blow?

I would be gratful if someone can advice on how to or can i Jump start the Mercedes? Of if there is a technique that I should follow?

Any suggestions would be grateful.

i have a 2003 CL500. My owners' manual has instructions on how to "jump-start" the car. Do you have similar instructions in yours?

You need to use SURGE PROTECTED jump leads.

If jump starting caused the car to blow, MB would be out of business already.
The trick is where to attach the jumper cables safely and conveniently.

Why not call Mercedes Roadside assistance, fuel, tire change and a jump were free, 24/7. There should be a sticker in your glove box, I just noticed they pasted one inside my trunk lid the last ime I had my car serviced. 1800FORMERCEDES

Hi Guys, thanks for all your responses. I tried calling MB Roadside.....as usual they want to charge me £184 to come out....saying that the car has not been been services at Mercedes for the last 3 years, so that was their excuse!!

Well Im waiting for my AA Membership to go active today, so will call them out to come start it! I was just little worried as many Benz mechanics have said that there is a possibility you can blow the electrics? Dont know if this is true?

As for Power Surge jump leads? Sorry dont mean to sound stupid....what do these leads do? As opposed to the normal leads?

You can kill SAM units and others if you do not connect/disconnect jump leads properly. MB isn't out of business because of this, on the contrary they are selling a good deal of new SAMs.

Why don't you use a charger, it is slower but would have safely done the job by now.

If you decide to jump-start the car, have both cars switched off first before connecting cables. And triple check that polarity is correct, and then check again.

Once cables are connected, start the supplying car for a while. It would be safest to stop both cars before taking leads out but if the receiving car might not start again, at least stop the supplying car first to avoid a voltage surge.

We do have free lifetime MB roadside assistance in US and that is probably what triggered the advise.
Please fill up your profile with model and location to avoid such misunderstandings in the future.
The common misconception about battery boosting is fact, that common jump cable are #10 wires who in household wiring are rated for 30 amps. Starter draws well over 100 amps. Can you sense a problem?
Years ago I bought commercial cable with #2 wires, but those cost pretty penny and are too heavy to carry in the car all the time.
So if you jump with #10 cables, connect them, start the "donor" engine and let it charge the weak battery before attempting to start. If the battery is totally dead, don't even try jumping with #10 cables.

All sorted....thanks for all your replies and recommendations. I finally upgraded my AA Membership and called them out....turned out to be battery was on its way out, replaced the battery!
