I don't want to pull the battery during winter storage. I want to use a battery tender. With the battery in the trunk there doesn't seem to be an easy way to run the leads from the trunk to the outside of the car. Is there a spot under the hood that I could connect the leads to and have the battery tender run under the car/engine or through the grill?

I'd be more concerned about off-gassing from the charger. But if you're dead-set on trickle-charging inside the trunk, can you not go out thru the vent behind the rear bumper?

I just feed the leads in over the boot seal, stays outside doesn't leak. If your using a battery conditioner no danger of gassing it.

I also fitted a quick connector and an inline fuse to protect the battery, (long leads car is is 15m from a power source)

Using a battery tender/maintainer. What are you calling the boot seal?

Thanks

Did not know there was a vent behind the bumper, I'll look into that. I had considered the drain under the spare but all the drains have a rubber membrane so it will drain and not let bugs or critters in?

Remove the battery, it is far better to be stored in a warm dry place. Also will prevent the possibility of galvanic corrosion of the cars wiring system.
I want to avoid having to reset SRS light or any other issues caused by disconnecting the battery. Also we get nice days during the winter. I would like to be able to unplug the maintainer and go.

At least on the '97, there is a vent in the qtr panel right behind the battery. It has a thin rubber flap to keep critters out, and a plastic grid that has ample opening size to pass wires thru. I don't know how accessible it is from outside/behind the bumper...

Thanks, that works. I had to pull the lower body trim away a bit to get the wire but the battery tender lead was just long enough to clip onto the battery and hang just below the quarter panel trim/molding. Topping the battery up now.

Thanks

Sorry trunk seal.
I was on my phone earlier and couldn't see your location. I would have guessed trunk if I had seen UK, thanks

I bought a solar battery charger. Lay it on the dash and plugs into the diagnostic plug in connector under the knee pad/steering wheel.

I usually just run the wire on top of the weatherstrip and shut the trunk. Im interested in running the wire through the vent. Anyone have a pic how it looks from the outside? How to you tuck it in when you're driving the car?

this is what I do too.

I connected the pigtail to the battery so all I have to do is pop the trunk and plug the connections together without moving any trim. Trunk lid closes just fine.

I also made a sign 'Battery Tender Connected. Do Not Drive' that goes on the driver seat so that I (or my son) don't jump in the car without disconnecting first.

The leads aren't very long and just barely hang below the quarter panel. The battery tender plug has a cover that covers the exposed pin. I'll try and get a picture today. If you were so inclined you could probably tuck it up under the lower body molding?
