Is it possible the circuitry is locked "on", therefore transmitting 24/7 and depleting the batteries?

Hello genser, you can test to see if you remote is working by using a digital camera. When you are looking at the screen of the camera - hold the remote up to the lens and press the button. You should be able to see the led in the remote turn white (when you press it)
or in your case if it is on all the time

Genser; if you get a chance; clean out the battery tray with alcohol. Make sure
there's no corrosion or fuzzies.
And I hope your using a high quality name brand battery, Duracell, Energizer.

I agree with others, I wonder if something is causing your Key to stay on
