Call 800.for.merc and find out. Based on your call and your consent, dealer will come to your house or wherever you are and install it for free. Doesn't matter whether you're still under warranty.

Not Free.
Each dealer has the option to charge whatever they want. Some better than others.
And you will have to pay for the battery unless the battery is still under the separate battery warranty.
The only things that are free are Jump Starts, Gas and a few other things.
May I suggest you read the Mercedes Brochures and Manual to see what is free with RSA and check pricing with dealer before they come to vehicle.

In addition to the fume issue another reason to locate the battery out of the engine compartment is that batteries do not like heat which is in the engine area

I apparently need to replace the battery on my '06 ML 350. The OM states that replacing the battery located under the passenger seat is a "complicated and technically demanding procedure" that MB "strongly recommends be performed by a qualified technician only". It also involves "cutting the carpet under the seat. MB must be idiots. Why would they make replacing a battery such an arduous, complicated process?

Hi, It's not complicated. When I posted I hadn't read the manual and was just surprised t was in that location (well actually the manual was at home and I needed to jumpstart another car) so I felt like an idiot when I couldn't find it. I also didn't know about the jumpstart rails...

Just follow the procedure to raise the seat.

I've had alot of success with Bosch batteries for my other cars as a swap to OE at a good price as I'm sure the Merc option will be insane. Check they offer a proper OE equivalent.

Battery Post Corrosion?

Understand this is an old thread, but after removing the cover under the passenger seat of my '07 ML350, I found serious corrosion on a battery post today.

Saw a previous post in this thread that AGM's don't experience port corrosion, but it's a Mercedes battery (correct part #, etc).

Has anyone else had that issue? I don't want to blindly drop in a new battery if there's some other issue i should be addressing first.

I too had corrosion on the post. I cleaned it off with a brush while holding the shop vac there to pick up the bits. I then sprayed with battery terminal corrosion spray. From what I can tell this is the original battery in my 08 and just clicked over the 5 year in service date. What pisses me off, is this should have been caught during the CPO inspection ( along with a bunch of other items I have to have addressed)

Not difficult

Agree with previous posts; not that difficult. The battery is heavy and a little unwieldy getting it down into the opening. I had no corrosion on my battery terminals. I paid $148.50 plus tax for my battery at the dealer. I gave them my old one and got a 10% discount for my Benz Club membership.

The Owner's Manual has instructions on how to remove the battery and how to reset things like windows and sunroof afterwards. It ain't rocket science.
I had my battery replaced at an Indy shop. Now my RES (rear dvd) screen wont power up. The player has power, accepts discs, etc but the screen has no power. Can this be related? Is there a reset needed for the RES monitor?

They recommend we bring it in because it's easy money.

$148.50 + tax for a dealer battery is an excellent price. The quote I got was $314.

The battery in my ML350 died today but I was able to jump start it. I'll have to replace the original battery very soon.

July 4, 2013: Not even a day after the jumpstart the battery died again so I bought a Duralast H8-AGM battery and she's up an running again. I saved around $330 compared to having it done at the dealership. The MB battery replacement process was a pain in the butt compared to my Acura. Make sure you have the right tools; lucky for me I still had my socket extension to remove the battery mounting nuts.

I just checked our dealership how much it costs for a replacement battery for a diesel ML320 CDI. It's $316+taxes. But they will honor a 20% discount parts coupon. This is a far cry from $148.50 quoted earlier. Is it because the gasoline version is only half the price ?
