So after having my new tires installed I was going to get an alignment as well and they decided they couldn't do it because the ball joints and wheel bearings are going out. I think I found both parts I need on autohausaz and I can get the tools and labor done by myself.

Do I need to order 2 of each? I'm a little lost here. Not sure which ball joints I should get.

Yes, you should order two of each.
I used Lemfoerder ball joints on my car. I've always thought of them as being very high quality.

The dust cap included with the wheel bearing kit did not fit my 2002 E320, so I reused the cap that was on there.
If you are doing it yourself, get the Mercedes green wheel bearing grease to pack the bearings.

Double check our tie rod ends and lower control arm bushings. This would be a good time to replace them if they are worn. I also did a brake job and flushed my brake lines while I was at it.

New dustcap did not

fit either - thought it was a tension fit or something but was really way too small - I filed the inside edge - no way it was going on, so re-used the old one.

For install/removal I used a cheap $18 deadblow hammer from the auto parts store - removal is channel-locks plus hammer for removal - for putting on the cap the deadblow does not have the sharp force of a solid hammer. I should have bought one years ago..

A arm bushings also wear on these cars and you can get sorta a wandering feeling when driving. These are usually sold with the whole arm(+$500.oo ea.), but one company does make just the bushings (Lemfoerder?) for ~$80.oo.
A terrible job to do if you don't have the proper tools.

I would think it probably isn't necessary but just a heads up.
