I'm new to the forum and i'm in the market for a convertible for me and my wife.
I heard about the MB balance shaft problem.
Is also the CLK320 model year 2004 affected with this problem? Or did the problem start with the switch to CLK350?

It's the M272, the CLK350. Cmitch's thread in the 164 forum I think has all the details for the years and engine serial numbers affected; he was one of the first affected by that travesty.

The "balance shaft" issue is a timing gear failure on the early M272 and M273 engines. In the CLK series, this is the CLK350 and CLK550. The CLK320 and CLK500 are unaffected (those are M112 and M113 engines)
