Posting to release some pent up rage over the white R107 300SL I’ve been to see. I originally phoned the dealer saying I’d only view if a reasonable part-exchange was considered for my car as I was coming a long way (50+ miles of all minor B roads). After agreeing a to a guide line P/X, I arranged to view this morning. I phoned to say I was about to leave and set out on my merry way. A few hours later after many rural towns and speed cameras I arrived.
For starters the guy was obviously just working from home and not really a dealer. Not being deterred by this I started looking around the car when he came out and asked me to leave the car and wait by the road in front of the house. After almost 15 minutes I was becoming annoyed so went and knocked on his door. He then came out closing the door behind him and explained that he may have sold the SL to a guy inside and asked me to come back in 30 minutes . At this I voiced my annoyance and was told the guy had just turned up. Considering their was no address in the add and that this guy was working from home it was blatant a lie!
As I’d travelled quite a way I decided to grab a pint in the local pub, carm down a wait. After a while my mobile rang and it was the dealer saying how the guy was with him, had offered the advertised price and was wondering if I wanted to up the offer. Considering how I hadn’t viewed the car yet and didn’t want to start getting into bidding match I politely:wink: said no and went home.

So what’s your worst car buying experience?

Also if anyones looking to buy a white 300SL in the Macclesfield area of England, BE WARNED!

P.S. If anyone knows of a reputable dealer with a good 280 or 300SL in the Derby area, I'm still looking!

Well since returning home and posting the above I've had another phone call from the dealer. Apparently he's run a HPI check on vehicle he's took as P/X and it's come up bad, so the SL is still available. On this I replied "you've wasted enough of my time" and put the phone down on him.

As they say; what goes around, comes around. Serve's him right!
