Recently had the Air Conditioner compressor "seize up" and mechanic cut the Belt to allow driving of car. any idea of what a repair would cost and is it usually a complete replacement of compressor.
I am a new owner of this 1985 300 TD and just learing the ins and outs. Thanks for advice.

It uses the GM R4 Compressor. They are junk of you ask me. Just about every auto parts sore will sell them for ~$100, and $10 for your core.
