The problem has come up a few times and if you check the Problem and Solutions sticky above and scroll down to gsp1 you will find a link to his past steering problem.

There have been a few other complaints with the ticking sound in this electric steering. A quick search will locate the few others.

Never a problem other than my Peugeot 405's steering was far more precise and better weighted. The B does tend to be affected by road camber more than I like, sort of like a clapped out 1969 Mustang ;) OK, not that bad. But it makes me wonder if they're somehow put recirculating ball steering into the car!

No noises.

I had mentioned that our car had a noise from the steering last year. When turning fully and braking at the same time the car would develop a noise. Naturally it would not replicate at the dealer and has since gone away.

The noise reminded me of of an electric servo motor on machinery trying to find the home position and overshooting the mark. The B uses an electric servo motor to control steering and I put my problem down to the motor and sensor being out of sync and the motor reversing direction rapidly to align itself. After a few moments the noise would disappear or if the key was turned off and the car restarted the noise was gone.

Hopefully it was a minor electrical fault and not the problems gsp1 reported.

Bill,

Interesting description and I feel that my electric steering does the same thing on occasion also.

Had a strange graunching noise from mine (at slow speeds) whilst on holiday last week but this also seemed to disappear after a while.

I had funny noises too and they replaced the steering column.

Steering column
Air pump
Air pump doohickey
Brakes, twice
Rear shock
Glued rear bumper back on

20,000 km 2008 - who's counting? At least they give me a courtesy car now.

I will bring it up at my next service just to make sure the paper trail stays alive. Did you notice any change in steering or just the noise??

I found the only way to beat you is not by getting up early:rolleyes: but simply staying up late.:D and letting the different time zones work in your favour.

Well it is a commonly used word in the ENGLISH language (check it out by doing a google search a lot of people refer to it) but strangely enough it does not seem to appear in any of the popular dictionaries or Wik. It translates to a sort of grinding / grating sound.

Yes had a good holiday thanks  but this was marred by the wife having to go back into hospital as the screws on the plate in her hip/femer have sheared off .

So it is not only M/B using duff metal by the sounds of things.

Perhaps that was that graunching sound I heard from her leg.

Keith.......So sorry to hear of your wife's trouble.

It's not as if she's out dancing a jig every night. It must have caused her great discomfort :crybaby2: ...and lets hope that they affix the bones with quality materials this time.

Our thoughts are with you both!

Thanks Mike  the specialist is doing a review in a week after fresh X rays & a CT scan. Hope they used stainless steel parts & not M/B steel otherwise she will have no metal bits at all in her after that scan ;) ;)
