Since I hit fifty, I admit that luxury is seeming more attractive…

IMO practicality > all, as oppose to some fancy gadgets that will, in its old age, fail in the long run. All the cars that have lasted/aged well over 15 years have been low on gadgets and luxurious options. Luxurious options is not exactly where longevity runs. I don't mean to offend members on here but it is what it is. But for me nothing better than driving a comfortable car that won't break.

The problem is that even the most basic car these days (for example: Ford Fiesta) has so many electronics that it's not possible to say that anything modern will necessarily be good for the really long run. So an ELW with any modern car to 160K km / 7 years will give some good innings and if the car is good over that period, it could be a keeper. Certainly the B 250 is chocker-block with electronics.
