RE: Average Owner Age

Not necessarily... I'm 31 and made sacrifices to get it.

I've been subscribing to 4+ car magazines since I was 16. I have always wanted some sports car but never took the plunge. I told my wife I'd like to own one sooner than later and enjoy it NOW. She agreed. I know I'll lose a lot of money in depriciation initially. I know it's not practical to own a 2-seater when we have 2 kids. I know I could have gotten a 4-seat ragtop bmw. I know there's a lot of reasons I should have never purchased the car....

But, when I go into the garage, turn on that engine, drop the top and head out; we'll, that's all the reason I need in making my decision.

Besides, we can always use the Camry or Highlander to take the kiddies out.

40% between the age of 22 adn 31? Lots of rich kids.
It's the 17-26 segment at almost 25% that gets me. I was lucky to buy an MG at that age.

Nice group of cars. BTW - How do you like the C230K? The dealer gave me one as a loaner the other day and I thought it was a great car for not tons of $$.

I think its great that you can can have so much at your age. But besides getting what you want in life are you saving anything? Just curious as it has become apparent with the Social Security debacle that most Americans have spent all their money buying and not saving.

That's not just in the US. People here seem to borrow money for everything these days. Personally I don't believe in leasing, finance or mortgages.

RE: Average Owner Age

I was 28 when I bought my SLK 55 (29 now), and I was 25 when I bought my old SLK 320. My parents are not well off financially, but I worked hard in college and then got my career going immediately afterwards. The fact that I'm single with no kids also means more $$ to spend on myself. :)

RE: Average Owner Age

I thought I picked up the average age of the SLK owner was older than I am, but at 40 I see I am at the upper end of the sample on this forum. That might reflect the fact that the people here are probably fairly heavy net users, and I suspect is a more youthful bunch.
It would be interesting to know the 200/350/55 split, and the demographics of the whole SLK customer base.

Wish I had mine now still[V][V][V]

....48 years old, 2 long term relationships where I got skanked both times - now live by myself - got the Aston, the Merc, the Ralleye (light aircraft), the Ducati and the 1937 Norton 500. I have a full time job, and also have my own Buisness (if you work for yourself, you have loads of money, but the bills don't get paid, work for someone else, and the bills get paid, but you've got no money. Do both - heaven). I still don't know what I'm gonna do when I grow up. I'm not a 'born again' (biker, sports car, aircraft driver or whatever) - I've always done it. I work hard, get paid well, and thorougly enjoy myself.

RE: Average Owner Age

I am in my late 20's year, Mercedes is the last thing i had in mind. I was more into BMW coz it tend to attract younger crowd and found the shape of BMW was sleek and attractive. All that changed with the newly designed shape, size, power of the new SLK's.

I always thought Merc is only suitable my Dad or Mom, but the SLK is a whole different animal. And thats my take on it.

How come us mature, seniors that still love fast, racy sport cars and drive them hard don't have a bracket? Why stop at 51 and over? You'd be surprised at what you might learn. reSLK1 well over 70.

RE: Average Owner Age

Well, I'm 23, bought it myself (no help from mommy/daddy). I love being in the finance industry. Definitely have to make some sacrifices though. If you think about it (guys around my age), $10 drinks @ 15 drinks/weekend * 4 weeks/month is just about 60-70% of a monthly payment. Pre-gaming is the way to go (but don't pre-game before you drive your R171) =).

Work hard play hard! Also this is probably a little skewed since younger people are more apt to use computers.
