Hi, Niel.cgs -
Also, it's my first post here on this forum. I just got a new (well, it's a 2024 that the dealership sold me as new) last month in June 2024. I just got a service notification from the car that a service was due. I find, from the dealership, that the initial dealership service was when they got it was LAST June (2024). After getting the initial A Service notification, I went in and talked to my local (Fort Walton Beach, FL) Service Manager and was quoted a cost for this first A Service of $479! My wife and I have only put about 500 miles on the SUV so far, and so it's got total mileage that's only about 1,600. So, it's really an annual oil change that's needed. When I commented on the very high cost (in my opinion) of this first A Service, the Service Manager explained that there were 'other items inspected' and it was more than just an oil and oil filter change that was needed. When pushed, he said that if I wanted to this time I could probably only get the oil and filter changed, but he wasn't willing to let me know the cost for just that. I also asked if they'd give me a 'military discount - say, 10% or so - for inspections and future service work (I am retired military, and we're very near a large military installation), and he said that was possible. Anyway, I left feeling like a 'beggar', and told them I'd contact them in the end of August or early September to schedule the service. My "plan B" is to talk to my current mechanic who has been (very well, BTW) servicing my 2002 M-B SLK 230 Kompressor - bought new in 2002, and now at about 130K miles - a 'daily driver' in outstanding condition - and see if he is willing to take on this new M-B GLB and do routine A and B Services for me...and what the costs will be. UPDATE, before posting: My mechanic will gladly do my services. I will have the first "A" Service done by them (end of Aug/early Sep) and report back with what it costs and what is done. Ciao, from the ******* Riviera ( or FL Panhandle)! ALSO, will send by separate post what they gave me for the 2024 Service Sheet for the GLB Model 247.6 to send to the Forum.

Welcome @dennphillbw

I think we'd recommend using a good MB specialist. People often have a bad time at the dealer.
Hi, Ian. I am a (nearly) 20 year follower of the SLK forum...I still have my second SLK 230 Kompressor - a 2002 straight cabrio I bought new for my wife, no mods - that's still going strong after about 130K miles. I do have a local very good mechanic - M-B trained - with an experienced son to assist him. He works well with the local M-B dealer and gets recommended for any overseas service members and former military with older model M-Bs the local dealer will recommend him. I have had GREAT service since moving here near Fort Walton Beach, FL in 2012. Fair priced good service - couldn't ask for anything more! I just talked to his son about doing the services on my new GLB and will report back with what I paid and any issues, probably next month. Hopefully, I can service with them...no warranty issues showing up. Thanks for the attention. Ciao, from the Emerald Coast (******* Riviera, whatever..)

FOLLOW-UP: I had my M-B service provider (for my 2002 R170m SLK230 - my daily driver) do my A Service - Paid $245.60. VERY pleased! (Nagging problem is he does not have a OBD diagnostic scanner that can reset the ASSYST PLUS maintenance minder. We are both trying to find the way to manually rest this - trying, for now, to AVOID the local M-B Dealer who wanted to charge me $479 for the first A Service!)
Hope this info helps.
