With my SL500 the windows go down slightly when opening and closing the doors to avoid hitting the convertible top. That function has just stopped functioning and I'm wondering what the cause could be. Anyone else run into this?

You need to resynchronize both windows. You can start with either side. Roll the windows completely down and hold the button 2 to 3 seconds after it hits the bottom. Roll the windows back up and once again hold the button an additional few seconds. If you can hit the down switch and the window rolls down automatically it is resynchronized.

Make sure that you don't try to put the top down until this is completed. The top controller will get confused and your soft top with stop half way down. Needless to say I have made that mistake.

window drop feature

The window drop feature was first implemented in models '95 and up. That is one of the main reasons why '95+ models have different controllers. The switches in the doors that detect the window position are different in late models, and the controller relies more on memory. The downside is, the controller needs to be reset when the battery has been very low or has been disconnected for a while...

and now I have noticed that it sometimes work, but just on the drivers side.
Passenger side dont work at all
Strange thing is that for all winter, both windows didnt work , not once, and now with the higher temperatures driver side works
Anybody with similar issue?

adding window drop feature

o_Anapodos..., adding the window drop feature to an early model SL would be totally cost prohibitive. Here are the main changes required:

- expensive, different controller with different wiring (it incorporates the roll bar controller on later models, which is separate on yours)
- some roll bar hydraulic line re-routing, depending on which controller you get
- magnetic sensor with wiring in windshield header
- magnetic sensors in the doors

windows working intermittantly?

monte129,

I'm not sure that I understand your description of the problem completely. Is it only the drop feature that didn't work on one or both windows, or did either window not move at all?

Once this is clarified, many of us on the forum can start to sort out together with you whether this malfunction is related to controller, switches, wires, or motors.

HI Guys,

I have this with passenger door. The door was replaced and the drop down doesnt work at all.

drivers side does, both windows auto come down if you tap the down switches and the roof works fine. tried synching and not sure whats supposed to happen but it didnt change anything. Everything works competely fine except the drop down (comfort open) on the passengers side door.

Any advice?

comfort drop

monte129,

thanks for clarifying that. By the way, would you please complete your profile with your location?

I have not dealt with the comfort drop not working (dropping the windows all the way down with a single click, as opposed the windows lowering just a little for soft top operation). I think there are some folks on this forum that could answer your question better if they have had to troubleshoot the issue before.

The intermittent operation makes me consider some loose or corroded wires or contacts. When the drop feature does not work, do you feel some hesitation right after pushing the window switch?

80% of the discussions in this forum is about fixing or adjusting features & optional equipment on these cars.....

....... And,... you want to add another one on your ride????

Just a thought..........

There is no hesitation after pushing the window switch.
when I open the passenger doors and push the switch for window to go up,it should stop few milimeters below the top position, and then when u close the doors window should move that few milimeters to the top.
Well my window doesnt stop that few milimeters below the top position with the doors open, instead it goes all the way up , and when closing the doors the top of the window hits the top of the car
By the way I am from Montenegro Europe and Thanks for trying to help Klaus
