hey,

I saw a picture of an automatic gearbox recently,
and I was wondering what those letters 'S' and 'L' stand for (the two last selections with the gearlever).
Maybe Short and Long or something?
Am really curious.[8)]

I allways thought it was for 'Low' and 'Sport', but if you think about it that doesn't make sense. Anyways I am curious to know as well!

ANYONE????

I understand that you are very curious too, but I still don't have an certain answer.
I wonder, people who drive a W123 with an automatic gearbox, they DO know what those selections stand for, don't they??? And I think in America there are a lot more people that drive auto then here in Europe.

So if ANYONE know what the two last selections 'S' and 'L' stand for, please let me know.

I am really curious.

They stand for.......

Slope and Low.

Slope only goes up to 3rd gear, and is for normal grades, uphill or downhill.

Low only goes up to 2nd gear, and is for "driving in mountainous regions."
