Disclaimer, this information is to show you how I work and is not intended to teach you how to fix your car and I'm not responsible for any damage or injury.
I'll only cover some of the most common faults, fault codes and what to do to fix the problem.
This only covers cars from 2000 to 2005. Yes, I have a 2005 W168.
1998 and 1999 have different and more confusing faults that I won't cover.
This does not cover induced faults, like "a few balls dropped from the valve body and I'm not sure where they go", etc.

In all cases and whatever fault you have in your car ALL CAN and communication faults must be ignored as these will be restored once the main problem is fixed and reset.

P1886, P1889 or 2530 , slipping first gear on acceleration or no forward drive altogether. This requires dismantling the gearbox and replacing first gear drum. It's not a cheap job but you shouldn't be happy or tempted to go for a cheap alternative repair because there isn't.

P1856 fault in GRM and P1872 comm. fault elsewhere. Your gear selector is faulty, have it repaired or replaced then reset.

2531 or P1889 and total loss of one of the gears, not 1st, most common 3rd or 5th gear in diesel models. The relevant gear is most probably sheered/broken. Dismantling transmission required. Repair then reset.

P1895 and another 6 or 7 fault codes following loss of gear display on dash means. Sometimes it will reset when you let it cool down, or it will reset using a diagnostic scanner and will drive perfectly for a short while or it won't reset at all. This means you FTC, transmission control unit, us burnt out beyond repair. Don't listen to people who claim that there's a company who car repair it because they CAN NOT. Replace it and reset all fault codes.

P1858 and car won't start sometimes, mainly when hot. Sounds like faulty starter but if you bypass the starter it always starts. Remove the FTC, transmission control unit and send it off for repair, then refit and reset.

P1850 the gear change feels funny, mainly when changing from 2nd to 3rd, when you need to rev the engine higher in order to shift to 3rd and eventually F will come on display. It will reset with the ignition off then on. Remove the FTC and send it off for repair, then refit and reset.

P1840, P1841, P1842, 2120 . These fault codes usually trigger F on display and will not reset. They mean you transmission control unit is faulty. you need to remove it and send it off foe repair. or replace it but you don't need to do anything to the valve chest. Then refit and reset.

Gear feels slipping when changing from 1st to 2nd. This fault is electronic and to rectify it you need to replace battery with a new heavy duty one.

Fault codes P1840, P1841,P1842, 2120 and 2123 indicate a faulty solenoid valve and the first thing you would consider is fit a replacement. Don't, because the problem is in the FTC elecrtonics and not the solenoid itself.

What if the only codes thrown out on a icarsoft MB Ver 2.0 are P0768 Transmission control: FTCFault6 and on the transmission control module: P200A: Component N15/3(RTC control module) is faulty.

Car was fine when all of a sudden it went into limp mode with the dreaded F on the display. Only second gear and reverse work.

Hatasını aldım. Fct elektronik kontrol ünitesi değişti. Fakat 2.viteste tereddüt var,vuruntu yapıyor. Sorun ne olabilir.

What model and year is your car, and what model and year the replacement control unit came out of?

İlginiz için teşekkür ederim. Aracım 2003 model A160 L, benzinli

Değişen parçanın resmini ekliyorum. Geri vites(R) ile 2.vitesteki vurma hala devam ediyor. Sizce sorunu nedir. Teşekkür ederim
The control unit in the picture on the right is 1999 and this is not compatible with 2003. I think this is the reason for not so smooth gear change.

Що робити, якщо на Mercedes-benz Vaneo W414 1.7 CDI 2005 року АКПП, під час руху з'явилася помилка на дисплеї. Після цього автомобіль працює без режиму Drive на 3-й передачі до 2000об/хв та в режимі Reverse. Трохи пізніше на дисплеї з'явилися інші помилки і авто взагалі перестав заводитися. Після скасування помилки двигун почав заводитися, але на панелі приладів індикація передачі F не зникала і проблема повторилася за кілька хвилин. Замінив блок керування, F зникала, скинув помилки автомобіль запрацював, як раніше. Але через кілька днів і приблизно 100 км. пробігу авто знову показав F, з повною відмовою режиму Drive, з можливим Reverse. Це може бути механізм КПП? Який до початку і після заміни блоку керування, працював у нормальному, безперебійному режимі поки не з'явилася помилка на панелі приладів? Тим паче, що на даний момент авто працює так само, як раніше. Різниця тільки в тому, що під час перемикання з режиму N на D, взагалі не відбувається ніяких змін. Що порадите? Чи можливо мати точний діагноз авто?
