Hi this is my first post, but i think ill be frequenting this board a lot more now as im purchasing a 230 Kompressor [:)]

Im 21 and have just got enough to get 1, the insurance companies in England dont seem to class the 230K any higher than a standard 230 which is superb as i can get a relativly hi spec'd car that is nippy and comes with all the gadgets you could dream of!

However... my dad says that i should get a manual gear box as cars with engines as small as 2.3 will lose a lot of power through the auto trans. even with the supercharger. Does anyone have any 0-60 stats for manual and auto 230k's because i cant seem to find the information anywhere. Also could you guys give me some personal opinions.

Thanks

Owen,
I think it is really up to personal needs as to which type of transmission you purchase with your 230k.. With manual, yes the power is not lost in the torque converter. However, if you do a lot of town driving, you might find it rather tiring to put up with a manual (clutch etc).
The auto box would give the car a more luxurious feeling but as you suggested, power is lost.
I would recommend you to get a manual if you enjoy having total control of the car, and if you would go and have a nice run in the car now and then...
If I were you, I would get a manual..

Just my 2p mate.

I'm not a huge fan of the merc manual gearboxes, personally I'd go for an auto (even in a C180). It's a merc and it has to be driven in the UK,... C'mon, the manual is ok but you'll only cane it for the first few weeks and then wish you had an auto anyways.

Also if you are in ANY of the larger cities you'll regret buying a manual,... stop go traffic will knacker your knees.
