I know i read a topic about this before but the search cant find it for me.

Anyway, my rear view mirror is now only partly covered with the dimming material (some sort of liquid) the top part is just a regular clear mirror. Anybody had that problem and fixed it? or does this mean it needs to be replaced? Thanks!!

Mine just did that the other day. It seems like the 'blue' gel or whatever has moved around a bit but hasn't gone anywhere. It happened right after i accidently left my sun shade in front of the mirror part of the mirror instead of behind it (between the mirror and the windsheild)

so i took the mirror off, looking closely, there was a leak around the mirror. from a bubble size of a quarter now the gel on the upper part is completely gone and only about half an inch of gel from the bottom is left. i dont even want to replace it now. oh btw.. if you order the mirror from Donnelly they are about $100 cheaper than the dealer.

Which Donnelly part number did you use? I couldn't find any vehicle applications. Does the $99 "base model" auto dimming mirror fit OK?

Does anyone know which wires are power and earth coming from the auto dimming mirror? I bought one not realising there was no plug behind the visor lining to plug it into!! Seems to have grey, black, white, brown and yellow wires coming from it. I guess some of those would link up to the door mirror etc if one were fitted. Any ideas folks? Thanks..

Slk230UK99, sorry dont have a clue. I would get a multimeter and test those wires.

I just got an auto-dimming mirror from the dealer yesterday. The parts guy took pity on my and sold it at a discount (they DO have a certain amount of discretion in pricing). The price was so good I picked up another Mercedes ball cap...also on sale at $6.95.

Anyhow, 144 bucks and a little labor on my part, and my mirror is back to new again! The hardest part was replacing the header trim -- a couple of the clips broke loose, so I had to epoxy them back into place.

BTW: Mine looks perfectly clear, too. But it does dim at night. I think they made some changes (improvements) that have the affect of making it look that way in daylight.

ahh.. strange.. my side mirror is really dark like there's a 30% tint on it.. however my rearview is clear as water or maybe just a little tint. does it only work at night? and oh yeah.. i broke the two end clips when replacing the trim back

With the car running, put your fingers over the little sensor holes on the front and back. You should see your mirror start to dim. Mine did.

You can use some 5-minute epoxy to put those clips back in place. It helps if you can somehow clamp them down as they dry.
