THe 5 speed auto on my 320 Cdi seems to remain in 5th gear even down to a walking speed. This results in the engine struggling to pick up under light throttle. If you accelerate strongly it changes down as per normal. Does this mean my auto box is starting to go wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Something is very wrong, but to get to the bottom of this problem you will need test equipment connected to the car and read all the fault codes.
