Hi guys,

I am very new to the forum.
I wish to buy a '89 SL500 AMG, but I am not sure if it is original.
Trying to post the pics of the car.

What do you think?

Thx for any help.
I think you need to post this in the porn forum.

Sorry I cant help you. But if you post the VIN there are guys here that can.

Front spoiler is stock 560SL. Can't see side well enough to tell about the side skirts. Rear looks like AMG. Deck lid (boot) spoiler appears to be MB from 500SL.

Steering wheel is obviously AMG. Are wheels and exhaust marked AMG?

Any AMG labels or markings on the engine?

Without documents proving it I would say no. The pieces could have been obtained at any time and installed by anyone.

^+1

and I'll add.. the wheels are AMG/OZ , the side skirts are AMG and the muffler tips appear to be a later ///AMG or Remus style.

Great looking roadster. Where are you located?

Wonder why it has a 560SL badge on the back. Do post the VIN if only the first 11.

True, but if the seller is saying it is a real AMG and is asking more than a comparable 500SL then it is wrong. Granted the wheels are worth a few extra bucks if in good shape but the rest is just window dressing.

sl amg

Hi,

Thanks for the replies so far.

The VIN is: WDB1070461A104835

I do not have photos of the engine, so I cannot tell about any AMG markings there.

The car is in Japan, I already made a telephone agreement with the seller to buy the car, but of course I want to know if it is genuine before making payment.
I have writen to AMG itself but have not received any feedback yet.

Does the VIN help you to find out?

thx again

Not about the AMG. I was curious about the 560 badge. It is an 046 so it is a 500. I doubt you will hear anything from AMG. They are now an MB company.

Not to start a fight, but isn't that true of any so-called AMG without engine mods? It's all cosmetic stuff.
The question is: who did the window dressing, AMG or someone else?

No argument from me. I think suspension mods could be thrown into the mix.
The problem is the records were destroyed so if the original person that had the conversion done didn't keep copies with the car you are SOL.

Unfortunately AMG today will not be able to provide you with any details about pre-merger AMG.

As rowdie has already stated, unless the previous owner held onto the original purchase order/work order you will have to accept the roadster for face value.

And regarding the old flogged argument of real, not real well.... there are examples with some goodies and others will all the goodies and some have paper work.

Good luck with the sale! Still a great looking roadster regardless of pedigree.
