Hi people,

Firstly, sorry I haven't been around for a while - I'm still alive! I've been consumed by work and other stuff and haven't been able to spend much time with you guys.

Right, I need some advice on lowering a 55.

At the moment I have the 230 Kompressor and have lowered it using the Eibach Pro Kit and Koni adjustables.

I'm looking to buy a 55 and have recently been viewing some.

I'm looking at one on Saturday which sounds quite promising!

If I do get a 55, I'll be aiming to get it looking like mine (ride height wise) and need advice on the best/ safest way to do it. I'm assuming that my Pro Kit won't be suitable due to the weight difference of the engines.

Will I need to upgrade my suspension again (for heavier duty springs or shocks) or will the Pro Kit & Eibach's work?

Thanks for reading and hope that some of you 55 boys can help me out.

Regards.

do you have a computer? Oh yeah, you do so contact the manufacturer of the spring kit you want to use and see if they make a separate kit for the 55.

Yes, funny man, I have a computer.

My question was whether I can just swap my Eibach's & Koni's straight to a 55.

I don't doubt that the Koni's would be fine, I just need to know if the Pro Kit springs are strong enough for the increase in weight.
Eibach have all engine sizes listed apart from the 55. But I figure that the weight difference between the 430 and the 55 is reasonably minimal.
I have since learned that the 55 engines are Aliminum, so I reckon they'll be ok.

Thanks for you reply, though as I said, I was hoping to hear from a 55 owner.

no really. all kidding aside. communicate with the manufacturer. That is the best source of information/details. Like Vogtland for example; in an email they told me that my car would see a 1 1/4" drop by installing their springs. what springs do you want to use?

Hi mate.

Well I've got the Eibach Pro Kit springs on my current CLK. I was hoping to swap them straight to a 55.

However.... I may not have my car for much longer afterall. My dad's old E-Class has just about had it. By the looks of it, he'll be taking mine and I'll be getting another.

I'm not completely happy about it as I love my 208. I've spent the last couple of weeks trying desperately to find a 55.:(

But the 55's that I have viewed (saw another 2 today) have been quite shocking. I can't believe that 55's have been treated as regular work horses. One of them had a ridiculous amount of rust in the engine bay - looked like some one had been ragging the shit out of it on a beach. Salt is the only thing I can think of that could have caused all that damage. It was well established rust too!

The others were in fairly good condition, but all needed fresh paint and had scuffs and tears inside. I was properly pissed.

I guess I have to accept that the 208 is now 8yrs+ old. People like us know how to look after a car, but unfortunatley, most treat them as just a car.:crybaby2:

I hate to say it, but it looks as though I will now be getting a 209.
I know, it doesn't look nearly as good as the 208, but what the hell can I do?
I need the big V8 but I don't think I'm going to find a clean enough 208.

Gonna have to pimp the shit out of it to make it look right, I guess.

These new 209 have so much gidgets gadgets in them that pimping isn't going to be easy. They have self stiffening shocks, all kinds of specialist shit that you can't really mess with.

Not happy with this "moving on" thing man.:crybaby2:
