Been building motor apps for a few years...most of them used in Mud Bogging Trucks running regular pump gas. Obviously we (rednecks) dont take good care of our toys and they get dirty inside. I used to run ATF in the motor for about 30 minutes and then swap oil back in...this seemed to clean out the engine SIGNIFICANTLY...anyone try this in an ML?

FWIW, I just read past threads about seafoam (which I used as well...but ATF is cheap and has ALOT more detergents in it).

Such ideas surface from time to time, not only in the ML forum but others.

I'm not aware that anyone has had the gumption to try it (or really, any other additive except when there were already problems, like oil consumption). It's your engine, so if you're inclined, give it a whirl. Me, I probably wouldn't -- unless I was chasing a more significant issue and didn't care about the potential to shorten engine life.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

At 120K miles...I don't care what MB thinks :) I'm way out of warranty.

I do appreciate the input though and will NOT be trying this...was just a fleeting idea as it may be.
