I read a few posts on this but I'm still a bit confused. I have an intermitent ASR light issue. Light comes on a couple of times if the car has sat for a week or so. When on, the car goes in into what I've heard called limp-home-mode. When I pull over I can reset it by turning off the car and restarting. This will happen maybe three times over the course of an hour or so in varying dring conditions. After that , it won't happen at all for a long time, until it sits for a while again.

Any thoughts? I've read everything from wiring harness to accelerator contacts to....

Thanks!

Throttle - or - switch behind your gas pedal - or speed sensor on your left front wheel.

Sometimes humidity acts up in the ETA and drives the car nuts.

My advice would to make up a 99 cent LED code reader. Check Pin7 of your 38 pin diagnostic socket, and read the codes (and clear them).

This has been covered in many topics before you ask how

ASR Light '94 SL500

Excellent feedback and advice, I'll check the throttle, switch and also make up the code reader. Humidity may be a factor since I live in the NE and it tends to rain during the times the car sits (and I cannot garage it at the moment...).

Thank you, I'll ooop back afterwards!

Hi all, I have a 93 sl 500 and like many other posts I have read here have recently seen the ASR come on. However, when my light comes on it makes no difference to the performance of the car at all. Just annoying have the light on. Can anyone shed some insight to this? Do I clear codes or look at the sensor on the left wheel (assume the the same for a right hand drive car?) I have no idea wha the sensor looks like. Thanks in advance.

I had this problem for the last 5 years, all attempts to find any fault failed no fault codes showed up. It is something that has bugged me all this time I just learned to live with it and even hoped that it would fail altogether do that the fault would have to be found. Searched all the forums many times and to be honest it seems that the fault was a common complaint with a variety of complex solutions possible. Eventually the throttle cable came adrift the rubber grommet that retains the end of the cable finally gave way. I think that it was on its way out for a long time ,anyway after replacing this I have a better throttle response and the dreaded ASR limp home or sometimes not limp home mode no longer occurs.

Hope that your problem is as simple as mine eventually was.
