I am looking at purchasing a 82 300d turbo four door sedan with 65,000 miles on it. I want to use Armstrong for a Prepurchase Inspection and maybe as a mechanic for the ownership of the car. Has anyone used them? Let me know what you think of their service and prices.

Also if you have any good advice on what to look for I'd appreciate it. Car runs, seems rust free, and the door locks work. didn't try the ac or heat though. The only issue I noticed was a hard shift in the lower gears. I am hoping to pay around 2000 for it. Any thoughts?

Its not a TD if it is a sedan. T is reserved for touring, wagon.

Thanks I did review old post...I am really about to commit and was hoping to grab one or two more insights...especially about the mechanic...cant stop thinking about this car though...

Look for rust everywhere - underhood near cowl corners, under driver/pass floor mats, rear floor mats, trunk esp the spare tire well, under doors, in jack holes. Look for signs of accidents and bad repairs. Look for leaks - oil, coolant, etc.; look for signs of leaks that were cleaned up before you got there. For me, I know that all mechanical stuff can be fixed, and on a thirty-yr old car, everything needs something. I buy an old car based solely on condition and the guy who's selling it. If the seller is a jerk, or shady, or dodging questions, then I'm gone. Too many good w123s out there.

The hard shifts out to go away once the tranny fluid warms up. If not, it's usually a simple vacuum fix.
