My 2005 E500 center console armrest sliding cover is stuck in closed position. It slides open about 1/4 of an inch, so I can't reach in to get it unstuck. The sliding cover is made of wood. Is there a way to get it open without breaking
any part?

Had it happen. My kids jammed 2 ipods a charger and two cables in there.
I already had my dial type pressure gauge in there and some receipts.
The cover got stuck from having one of those items catch it while going back.
Keep in mind this was a very thin and flexible wire hanger. I would not do it with one that is too stiff.
Was there a lot of stuff in there before you last closed it?

I took a thin wire hanger and bent it to fit in that space. Wrapped it in two layers of electrical tape and then
like a plumbing snake I worked it backwards and side to side while gently trying to slide the cover back.
About half way it released and I emptied the console. Now all their toys get stowed in the rear armrest
compartment or the little storage spots under the front seats.

Tried exactly as suggested, and got it unstuck in 30 seconds! I had a cup shaped air freshener in the front cup holder. The cover of the air freshener caught the underside of the sliding cover. Thanks a lot for the great suggestion.

Glad it is working.

After my episode I always make sure nothing has a profile that sticks up that could catch the cover as
it is being closed. It seems that is when they caught and then the cover jams.
