Is the glow plug swap pretty straight forward? Is there anything I should know before jumping in, or is it just a quick pull and swap?

Yeah its easy, sometimes you might have some carbon build up which makes it hard to pull the plug out but just keep spinning it and it will come out after a bit.

I put the new glow plugs in today. I didn't do all the reaming, etc. I've read more horror stories than good from the reaming.

I discovered a spot of wet oil on one of the plugs. My guess is this can't be "good oil." Am I right? There shouldn't be oil on any of the glow plugs right?

The assumption is that you are burning only Diesel Fuel.

If it is actually Oil the only place it can come from is the Engine. Piston Ring issues or possibly Valve Stem Seals and Valve Stem clearance issues.

If they are wet from Diesel Fuel it could be Injectors that are worn and not atomizing well or something that interferes with the Fuel Burning correctly like Timing off and poor compression.
Not enough Air due to Plugged Air Filter.

Horror stories include the engine popping and running horribly after a good reaming. I guess a little oil isn't as bas as I first suspected. Does anyone know where you can buy an engine rebuild kit?
