Hi,i am still considering buying an SEC Widebody that is available to me in the UK...(please see my widebody thread),but i am hoping to get some advice regarding wheel size and the ideal offset to fit.
I have a chance to buy these O.Z AMG 3 piece wheels,they are 8.5 X 17 fronts and 9.5 X 17 rears both with an offset of ET18.
They do not have tyres,so if these will be a good wheel fitment, would the recommended tyre size be around a 235/45/17 or do you reckon on something different...whats your thoughts !

Thanks guy's,cheers Crawfy !!!

Yep Off set is fine ET11-ET25 fits the 126. You can check the Standing wheel Height(dia.) and find a tire with the Dia. that is closest to the original tire on the car. I have 16" Centra's on my Euro 500SEC that came with 14" Bundts from the factory. I searched for a tire that was as wide As I wanted.(225/50/16 that had a dia. close to the tires that came on the car and the 15" tires that were on the car when I got it. All were/are within.125"-.250" of that same diameter.)
Good tire hunting and I covet those wheels!

Thanks Chadahar, thats good to know that between ET11-ET25 fits. I was more concerned as they are 8.5 fronts and 9.5 rears and i would be fitting them to a Widebody SEC so i want them to fill the arches well. Best wishes to you in California from Scotland!

Cheers Crawfy !!!

I'm afraid you're going to need a more aggressive offset wheel to fill the arches of a widebody. ET11-25, pending diameter, is appropriate for a standard body W126. The widebody penta style wheels had a rear wheel offset of -12.5mm and IIRC the fronts were 0mm offset. These are very rare and a rear NOS pair recently sold on eBay.de for over a 1000 euros!

Even if you get smaller in there rear you may be able to get by with 20mm H&R's DRA's spacers that bolt on to the hub and only these should be used. I got away with other kinds that don't but for a short amount of time.

Just in case you find awsome wheels you can't pass up.

Yeah probably could get away with it as you have seen the Widebody pics and its not as wide as a genuine Widebody...so maybe an ET18 with a spacer kit would work out fine.

Should i go the full way and slam on this set of 8.5 X 20 Outlaw alloys, these have an ET20 but might be a little too much bling for an SEC. They have a polished deep rim and a Silver centre, pretty nice wheel.
Dont know if being only 8.5" wide and an offset of ET20 they may be too inset for a Widebody SEC...
I do prefer the deep dish AMG's if i'm honest.

Cheers Crawfy !

I think they are a bit too tall if it's lowered as they might rub on the fenders.

Well, the ET of 11 to 25 is not the entire thing. It depends on the width of the rim as well. The 3pc wheels for the W126/R129 have a front offset of 18 and the rears (should be 10" not 9.5") have an offset of 17.

Offset for the widebody SEC's however are different. You can even have a NEGATIVE offset number.

correct size/offset for SEC

I really think 17" wheels should be the largest size to use on an SEC. Anything bigger will compromise the ride/driving chariteristics of this fine tuned mchine. I know of people that have put 20"s on & it just kills the ride & handling, but thats totally your decesion. Best of luck with your choice.:shit not:I have 17" LORINSER RS90 wheels on my blk '91 SEC & 17" LORINSER D93 wheels on my '86 SEC-both ride/drive great.
