Are there fog lights on a W140?

Hey everyone . . .

I am still a newbie, and trying to figure out everything I can about this car. One thing that I noticed was that this car does not appear to have any fog lights, which seems kind of strange for such an expensive luxury car.

The W140 does have a couple of "cut-outs" in the bumper where I would think the fog lights would be. Does anyoen know what these are?

It could be an option in Canada. Here in US, it's standard in well...at least on my cars....

You will know all about the car before you have it, the "fogs" are inboard of the headlamps. Those are not fog light openings one is for the towing hook, the other I dont recall. I would resync the headlamp wipers, they do not work or wash unless the headlamps are on. Also what is the red paint on the bumper? It appears that someone also put a non standard grille on the car. Zebrano wood was standard on all non "high-line" cars.

Hi Peter, the grille we see in this picture is standard. Someone (a previous owner maybe) has gone and purchased extra chrome strips which glue over the top of the standard non chrome slats on the grill. I have seen these before.
The openings on the bumper cover are the tow eye cover and the temp sensor cover.
You quite rightly state that the front fog lights are integrated in the main lamp cluster hence not in the fender where they are risk of chips and cracking.
I cant beleive that you guys are able to drive around without a front licence plate!! I wish we could do that here.[^]

Oh, sorry. I should have specified that this isn't a pictuer of my actual car. This is just a picture of the Front of a W140 that I took off of Ebay so that you could see what I meant by "cut-outs"[:I]

I have no idea what that red paint stuff is . . . it could have been put in the picture by computer. Also, I don't have to worry about sychronizing my wipers because they aren't screwed up like the ones on this car [:)]

Since you brought it up, what do you think of the grille on this car? You can buy the chrome kit on ebay for about $30.00US . . . I think it looks pretty sharp, but let me know if you think it's tacky . . .

But I thought that the whole point of foglamps was that they were low to the ground so that they could light up the road underneith the fog? Or do the Benz foglights aim down or something o acheive the same effect??

The car in the picture is not actually mine, and sadly, we need a front license plate in Canada too [:(]

Yeah, I know [:)]

Can you blame me for wanting to know everything??

Obviously, I am pretty excited for my Dad to get his car (and I have already claimed memory seat
position three [:)])

Every day, I seem to learn of at least one new, cool feature. What an awesome car!

My Dad, who never shows excitement about ANYTHING (especially something that I talked him into) is actually carrying a picture of the Benz around with him in his wallet! [:D]

I'm glad to see him so happy (and who wouldn't be happy owning a car such as the W140??) This is actually his first import that he has ever bought . . . everything else has been crappy GMs or Fords (however, I hear that his 1967 Pontiac GTO Custom Sport Convertible with 350hp was prety cool before he fell asleep and crashed it [:)])

Hi Gill,
In Illinois we had to have two plates, I used to take one off in Florida and put on my "condo" plate, so I would not have to stop at the gatehouse. I finally took the holder off and painted two plugs (they look like backup sensors now)I was "stopped" now I leave the car down here. In Florida everything is different, including elections.
I think it sucks having to need front plates as well, it ruins the look. I knew someone who got a ticket for not having a front plate, but that was a Nissan...
