I have a 1983 300D turbo with a bad head. I found one online at a junk yard that is relatively close, though I am not able to get there durning normal business hours. I have a friend who is willing to got get it. I didn't want to waste his time so I called to find out if it was still available and also asked if it was turbo or not. He said that it is there, but that it was not turbo. Someone else I know, who works on a lot o MB's, thought that was not accurate, but wasn't 100% sure. Is it possible for an '83 300D to come without a turbo?

All 617-951 and -952 engines are turbo charged. The -912 versions are NA. Some cars newer than 82 are NA depending on where they were delivered. Wagon version heads will have the SLS hydraulic pump so you'll have to find a coupe or sedan for your car's bad head.

The SLS pump on OM617 is mounted on the engine block and not on the head :)
And allso the SLS pump is easy to disconnect if you have one and don't need it.
