I've been looking for a 300CD that I can fix up. I've spotted this one on the Bakersfield craigslist and it looks promising if it runs halfway decent.

1984 Mercedes 300CD Turbo

Is there anyone in the area that can see if the engine and transmission is as trashed as the interior?

Mine will be for sale soon. 1985, unknown true mileage (I fixed the odometer recently and it's at 305k), Euro headlights and bumpers, good compression engine, previously owned by another forum member. I'll gather all the details and lots of photos later on and post them in the for sale section. It has a bunch of minor items needing attention which would make it a good project car. I bought it for the reliability and fuel mileage (great looks are a bonus), but I'm looking at a W124 300D now, and if I bought that the 300CD would have to go.

Car looks nice. I'm interested although I suspect that at the price you'll want, I'm not going to be able to do anything for a couple of months or so. I'm one of those oddball people that pay cash for their car. No cash, no car. Message me with the details when you get ready. I promise to give it a good home if the finances work.
