The 99 model year is the latest and the greatest for the W140s. As you probably know it the last year of production for this model line.
With 17K miles on this car, in my opinion, its freaking brand new engine. If you continue to take care of this car regulary then it will ride as it is riding now with 117K miles.
Iam not sure if the evaporator issue is completely fixed in this model line. But if you are getting starmark warranty and it covers AC problems, then there should be no worries. The lincolnwood loeber mercedes have serviced my car very well.
The size of the engine is something that depands upon ure needs. The 4.2L engine is great, so is the 5.0L. These W140s are made to be long range vehicles. With their huge gas tanks and massive engines, they are designed for the highway. If you are a highway driver, this car will serve you well with a 4.2L V8.
I dont drive my car more than maybe 30 miles a week. So for me the I6 3.2 is just fine. Also my original front grill wont fit ure car as its a different design.
Maybe this helps..
