I only had one a short time in my wholesale days, thought I would keep it but too much work getting in and out (try getting out when your parked against a high curb), especially if your making 20+ stops a day. Beautiful car thou. No real resale value then either.

Do they have OEM drip trays for these cars?

:)

What was that joke?

Even the service manual on CD will leave a puddle of oil on your desk?

Yep, I'm going to have to park it next to the 500SL with the big leak from the power steering box so that no one notices.

Congrats. I think these cars are somewhat undervalued - quality had improved dramatically by the end of the run, which like our 107s lasted a long time. In fairness, the E-type is a tough act to follow, and I always thought that unfair comparison did not do these cars any favors. Once they had gotten to the true factory convertible they were pretty nice, but by that time the design was pretty old and competition getting stiff - especially from Germany...

You may want to check out this site from time to time, these guys move a lot of them, and would be your go to shop if you lived here in CT:

Recently sold my '86 XJS V12 Coupe. Smoothest car I've ever driven. Awesome body design but my disabled body began having trouble getting in and out so she had to find a new home.

Thanks, I've always had a soft spot for old Jags. They were in many respects far superior to their competition when they first came out but certainly did suffer from reliability issues. As this car was built well into the era when Ford owned Jaguar, I'm hoping that the quality controls improved.
I've not seen the car in person, it's in Michigan right now.

Here are the pictures:

V-12 - you are indeed a brave man.

A while back I read about an event that was set up specifically for V-12 cars - anything from any era but it had to be a V-12 to participate in a two - three day driving event. It seems like it would be cool to go on tour with everything from early Classic era cars like Packard or Lincoln 12s, 60s era exotics like Ferrari 12s, and the later MB, BMW and of course Jag V-12s.

Jaguar V12's are not that bad and the 6 liter cars are supposed to be a lot better then the older ones. With the older cars, you have to be careful that the car is not run hot as pressed in valve seats can drop if a car is run hot.

Aside from that, the only other concern is the fueling system. The rubber fuel lines will go bad and can cause the engine to catch fire. The ignition system can fail which can also cause the car to catch fire.

Aside from this, they're really nice engines. My 75 XJ12C has a lot of fleas, but the engine is fantastic. It feels like there's a Jet engine under the hood.

Nice looking car, I have a couple of friends who have them. One has a Chevy V8 engine (he also has a 914 Porsche with a Chevy V8). I've always liked them but I understand maintenance is a bit pricey, parts may be difficult to find. During the "Ford era" parts became more easily available which did help keep the cars running. I had 3 contemporary (new) Jags during that time and I was happy with them. Then came Tata...

Thanks, parts support is generally pretty good (I have a buddy who has 18 in his back yard so I'll be OK :) )
Service is a little tricky because of the complexity of cramming a big engine in a small engine bay. The V8 conversions are popular and they certainly make these cars easier to work on because you can get to stuff. But for durability or reliability, get one with a Jaguar straight 6. They're bomb proof and make close to the same HP as a 560SL or a V12 model. Most of the 90's cars are 6 cylinders. The V12's made in 1994 and 1995 were built to order so there were only a few hundred of them made.

Pete

I could actually use an XKE motor for this:

It's a 69 with a 4.2 and I think I may have a line on a motor for it (if I can scrape the money together before he sells it).

It's going in the pipe once the 280SL is done (unless i can find a reasonably priced S1 roadster)
