I could use a get together or clinic here in the Mid-Atlantic area. Anyone interested?

Why? Well, I've had my '72 350 since August last year, and done well with various small projects, but I have so many small questions, and would love to meet up with folks who have more 107 experience.

Take this example. My car has had two alarm systems installed in its life, and both horns are still in. As I explored taking a horn out I indadvertedly touched the black wire going to a relay (red arrow in photo), and the engine, which was running as I was just looking, sounded like it was mis-firing. I think it is connected to that cylinder (blue arrow in photo), is that the d-jet, btw? Well, I concluded that I better not touch anything as the car runs really well. Why fix something that is not broken!

Anyway, I have loads of questions, and fascination for that great v8 engine. If anyone want to get together in Spring or Summer, I'd be interested.

Do not touch anything unless you really know your components. That "cylinder" is the ignition coil. Looks like the alarm system has an ignition cut-out circuit via that attached relay.

Lucky break for the OP poking around the ignition coil on a running vehicle. Could have been worse. I learned early on, at age 14 or so, that it is a very bad idea to pull a plug wire, for example on a running engine without the right tool - inadvertently grounding the contact on the wire to the engine compartment via my arm. A lucky break for me also, as that can be really bad traveling through your whole body. Kind of like the high dose shocks they give hunting dogs out west when exposing them to rubber snakes, a lesson not likely forgotten soon...

That spark almost killed me. I had put noise suppressors in the distributor cap of my moms '68 Chevelle. I was under the hood with my older brother when he reached back to adjust the timing. Lucky for me I could out run him. :)

You are right mrelbe, I won't start taking that system apart just yet myself. That's why I am looking for someone who knows the components.

My only fear is that if I leave it as is, that the alarm system by itself suddenly would cut ignition, or fuel pump, or whatever they may have wired that alarm to do. The 'brain' of the alarm is no longer in the car. Am I being too worried?

That's great, so there's two of us. It would be great to be a few more, and pick a nice location to meet up.

And I am also one of those looking to learn.

I'd love to come....but not owning a boat will make it difficult.

Generating interest in a GTG requires a couple of things......the most important is a DATE.

Lots of East Coasters with 107s......"Build it and they will come".

Keep in mind that organizing a GTG needs travel time consideration for the attendees. So a Saturday is usually your best bet.

And the incentive of Cold Beer usually will generate a draw. :)
