Has anyone hardwired or jumped an extra hardwired electrical connection off the lighter feed for a GPS or Cell phone (To charge them)?

Can turn a wrench ok, but the electrical stuff and wiring always seems to be more difficult to understand or find tips on. Looking for ideas, as I am going to upgrade my '88 console to the newer console, add the map pocket and thought it would be a good time to run the wire.

I did my radar detector off the cigarette lighter. Pretty easy, just tap off the power wire behind the cigarette lighter, and you can tap off the ground there too if you want.

LOL. Speed is never an issue for me and the 2.3 8v.
Hahahaha. I once drove my friend's old diesel W123(?). It was the really really really really anemic one. This was way before I was considering a Benz or even another car. I borrowed it while my main car was being serviced.

And I can say that I have NEVER floored a car for as long as that one. From my freeway onramp, there's a good 5-6 miles of slight uphilll and level freeway driving before the freeway runs back downhill again. I literally had the car floored for 5+ miles. Powershifting through the gears to try and get to 60mph. Through the rougher uphill sections, I had to draft a big rig in order to maintain speed. If I switched lanes I slowed down in the top (4th) gear. Switching back behind the big rig I could maintain speed. Then, I could not have been happier to see myself cresting, and finally, going downhill.

Sorry for the off topic rant, thought I'd bring up an MB specific lack of speed story. :D

after i put the new radio in i did not feel like messing with the center console so i ran two 16g wires from the window regulator switches near the shifter to the kick panel. one is left open if i need another power source the other is hardwiring a 8500 escort passpart detector, hardwired up through the pillar and headliner.
