Hi guys,

Looking for options here...Although I told my mother please do NOT use anything but the touchless car washes, she ignored me and now the antenna top has broken off the ML350 on the roof.

What are the options to get this fixed? Anyone else run into this and have a cheap and easy solution? Radio still works, its just the "cap" that is missing now.

Get a replacement at a junkyard?

That’s not the radio antenna. It’s for cellular and GPS. The radio antenna is in the rear window.

Sam is correct it is the GPS antenna, so unless you are using the GPS; either make sure it is water tight or replace. Replacing requires removing or at least pulling down part of the head liner. It is held from inside by a retaining bolt. Not an easy job lots of clips and screws.

is the part number it is oddly enough still available still from dealer. You would think given very few use the GPS it would be free.

Did she bring it to the car wash's attention? They are the one that damaged it, even having signs saying no liability for damages does not limit their liability.

Sam the AM/FM antenna is actually in the rear bumper.

A member here, Sgtpepperaut, 3D printed me one and it is still there almost 6 years later. Hard plastic. But, he hasn't been on here since January 2016 so I'm not sure you'd be able to get one from him.

They are pretty cheap at pick your part your part wrecking yards. I checked row52.com for ones in your area (Phoenix) but nothing came up, but you should keep checking. They are easy to install. Here’s a crappy video of how to remove one, but obviously you’d be much more careful.

My ‘98 ML320 just has a plug in the hole, if you want to remove the whole thing. The part should be available at a dealership or junkyard.

It's the same hole 98 - 05
I stand corrected. I compared the two holes yesterday and they are the same. Unfortunately I broke the two covers that I attempted to remove for OP. I’m thinking they won’t work, however, for 02-05, as they seem to need the 98-01 piece inside the roof that the antenna screws into to stay secure (it doesn’t seem to simply snap into the entire hole). I won’t know for sure until I can remove the hole cover intact and then try it on an 02-05.

I pulled one of the caps today at the boneyard. It’s just a plastic cap that pushes into a square rubber grommet.

ps2cho, drop me a PM if you want it.
