Not sure if you have the same antenna guts as the 560SL but perhaps there is a kit on E-bay for yours.

Thanks Roncallo, it never happened before, i do not have a seperate antenna switch on the 75, it goes in and out with the radio turned on/off. Of course things like that happen on the same day i planned to put on the Hard Top! This will be fun with the Antenna out...
I will look out for the Antenna kit, you described the repair work perfect Roncallo, Thank you!

Glad I can help but first make sure you do have a Hirshmann genuine antenna and not an aftermarket.

don't know how mechanically inclined you are but if you take the unit apart you will find a spring that presses a wheel against the nylon (teflon whatever) tail on the antenna, I flipped this spring over so it exerts more pressure and solved my problem. Providing of course the unit is still functioning and you don't have a more serious problem.

One of the things you can check is to see if a wire has come loose or check for a bad connection where the wires connect to the antenna. The motor is a DC motor that runs one way when the positive wire is energized to one terminal and to retract, the signal is reversed and the antenna goes back down. There are more knowledgeable people who can tell you which terminal is which. I fixed mine by trial and error.

Like everything on the SL there is a "system" to make it work.

Switch, fuse, wiring and grounds and the actual component ...the antenna in this case.

Start with the easy stuff first...fuse, ground etc. I had an intermittent problem which turned out to be the ground.
I also had a problem with the mast not fully stowing.

So I took it apart, cleaned everything and re-positioned the geared ribbon and Bob's your Uncle.

Hallo, today i took the time to remove my antenna, no, i tried to remove my antenna, but some problems...
I have the old metal Hirschman antenna motor in my 75, and it stopped working a while ago. I tried to remove the motor but i could not get the motor lose from the geared plastic cable inside the antenna mast..? The motor stopped working with the antenna nearly full out...
I looked at Roncallos antenna post but could not find any hint how to remove the plastic cable from the motor...
I took an old plastik Hirschman, opened it and pulled/pushed on the plastic cable it does not move... i can imagine taking the antenna apart would make the cable lose... but how to get the cable out of the old metal motor housing still closed on my car?
I cleaned the ground, checked the fuses everything Nobby suggested to do before removing the antenna...
So long story short.. how do I pull out/ remove the geared cable out of the closed antenna motor to remove the motor out of the trunk?

as you can see on the picture, i took a plastic 86 antenna apart to get some ideas..
I know it is easy... but how....Judy ??

How Nobby, how did you remove the geared ribbon in the first place?
