If i give my car full throttle it will only kickdown 1 gear, this cant be right as it feels awefully slow, i thought it was suppose to kickdown 2 gears? I had a mechanic adjust it to drop 2 gears which made the car feel quite strong but now the mechanic who rebuilt the transmission said the reason the car was thumping was because the car was bringing down 2 gears "they are not suppose to bring down 2 gears"....this dosnt sound right to me as the box was playing up before the other mechanic adjusted the kickdown. So, what i want to know is, is the transmission suppose to bring down ONE or TWO gears?

It not "1 or 2" gears question. It should always kickdown to the best possible gear for greatest power. That means 2 gears if 4th gear is in and you are going under 100kmph. You DON'T want it to downshift to 2nd gear when you are going 150kmph :) not unless you want your engine to jump out.

My guess it your kickdown is not working, and your mechanic merely adjusted the wire to the transmission. Shifting 2 gears very often probably isn't very healthy for the tranny...

Depressing pedal should downshift 1 gear if necessary by itself, kickdown should add to that and make it downshift more aggresively, even 2 or 3 gears down (when going 40, you can have 4th gear in, pressing kickdown shifts to 1st gear).

Hey Louie why don't you shoot arkenstone a PM and find out where he had his transmission done, he just had his rebuilt and he is in Melbourne also.

Maybe his guy can shed some light on it - maybe it's the same guy:rolleyes:

I'd bet your kickdown switch simply doesn't work and your mechanic "fixed" it simply by tightening the wire to the transmission. But that's very ooh very wrong...

Look if you kickdown switch is connected, get a new one, check the cabling... you can do this yourself, no need to jump into expensive transmission repair ;)
