Currently on my 1995 E300 Diesel I have 17'' W210 E430 rims...recently one of them has cracked...I drive alot on all roads...city and highway...The 17s would rub a little bit...I want to put on a set of chrome 16'' 1995 W140 rims...would these rims rub as well and what would be an ideal tire size to go with?

Is it the 16" version of the classic MB 8-hole alloy you're after? There was a W140 version of that design, but it has a fairly extreme off-set of ET 51. More importantly that model uses wider wheel bolts than the ones found on the rest of the range, which makes direct fitment of any W140 wheels to a W124 impossible.

The R129 version of the same wheel will fit 124's and 202's without modification... but even these may still rub (and protrude from the front arches). The only 124 supplied with 16's was the 500E, hence the beautiful flared arches.

Original looks, cheaper tyres, the ability to carry a matching spare in the trunk and no fitment issues - that's why my car is still wearing 15's after all these years. But I know how it is - if you like big wheels, then only big wheels will do.

Good luck, post results... I have to agree that bigger wheels definitely look good on a 124... as long as they're MB designs.

As already explained, W140 are going to be the wrong offset and bolt hole size.

You want any just about any R129, W202, W203, W204, SLK and CLK wheels if you are looking at 16 inch sizes.

How about a set of W210 17'' sport rims? And is there anything I can do about the rubbing at all...I see so many people with 17s,18s and even 19s on there W124s does everyone experience rubbing like this?
