I was driving today and noticed my left turn signal was blinking faster than my right turn signal. So I figured the bulb could be going, or the fuse maybe. I drove along and messed with it (signalling left and right while parked in front of Target) and still it won't go away.

Once I got home, I park. I always park backwards, so when I go out it will be easier. Nearing the wall, I noticed my left brake lamp was not lighting up, but the right was perfectly fine. I turned on my light and no light still (no red, not even reverse since I was backing up). Now I remembered, I came out the other night to check which bulb holders will fit into the rear fog lamp, as I wanted to get those to make the four brake light mod. But I forgot to plug it back!! Now it's all working fine!!

Isn't that just pure engineering genius? The car told me something was wrong with the left side electricals/lighting! [8)]

And I just found out on my car's registration card, the registration date is on Valentine's Day! (already registed, btw!) Could it have been a Valentine's Day gift from my grandpa to my grandma back then? This car slowly becomes a love car to me now! [:)][:)]

Tell that to eso7. He is in desperate need to justify his arguments.....[:D]

It's actually easy, I read about it and figured all I need would be some wiring (the right size, I'll still have to figure out which ones are right), two new bulbs and their bulb holders, soldering iron or splicing thingie.

Last time I checked my taillights the bulb holders seem to be the same for taillight, brake light and reverse light holders. So if Steven parts his car out, I'll take a pair of those bulb light sockets, he'll use a pair, and you can use another pair as well---if they are the same!

Tiger, I understand Eso7's position. But he has other concerns to deal with as well (money, maintenance, etc), so he's being picky to make sure he gets a good one. Regardless, any W123 will do as long as records indicate good maintenance and TLC! [:p]

By the way, I myself am not electrically inclined. So this four brake light mod will be a new experience to me. Something to learn each day I guess [:I]

Is there any dual filiment sockets that would fit our light bars? I think it would be nice if we could upgrade our entire taillight system to six tails and six brakes, maybe even four tails four brakes and the rear fog lights.

I already done that Steven. I'm not familiar with dual sockets, but here is the pics.....oh forgive last pics, it's not blinding anyone's eyes, just another extra safety margin added.[:)]

Damn that's bright!!! My eyes go [|)] [:D]

What wattage bulbs did you install--same as standard brake lights? I don't think those are double filament ones, but just the standard four brake light mod [:D]

The double filament conversion might need rewiring, I think. I prefer the four brake light mod myself than going further into the double filament. Easier to do, and adds a unique touch to my car as well.

Oh and I saw a W123 w/ a third brake light. It didn't look odd at all. In fact it looked factory! Now where was that third brake light site? [:D]

Jdc, lighten up man! It's Valentine's! Show some love... [:p][:D][:)]

What the hell is the ‘four brake light mod’? why can’t you young ‘uns leave well enough alone? The brake light pattern is uniquely MB and cool the way it is. [:(!]
Actually, the four brake light mod was first seen by me on MS, and done by a guy named "OLDnavy". I doubt he's a youngin', his profile on MS lists him as being the ripe age of 59[:)]. He was just looking for a way to increase the safety margin, you know, get people's attention when you brake so your classy Benz won't get rear ended by someone in their H2. I might go ahead and try this mod myself, although I think the original brake lights are fine, I was following my dad while I was in the SD, and he was in the D, and I must say, without the mod, the D has some bright brake lights. You can do the same mod to your W126s as well.[;)]

Yes, same wattage with standard brake light. Very helpful on heavy rain!

Thanks, If it's odd I wouldn't install it, would I? My suggestion is, go for W124s third brake light! They are larger and looks better than mine!

oh, jdc, here we have no fog. It's a pity to see unused space of available lamp. My first thought is to "optimalize available empty space", you know. I'm not trying to blinding anyone's eyes, I never mean that! It gives extra margin of safety I think!

How did you do that? Looks really nice!

Thanks. I only rewire it. I have no wiring diagrams so I am afraid I cannot fully explain it to you. All I did was adding a small wire and tied it into standard braking lamps. Then get a pair of light bulbs with same wattage with brake lights. Very simple. No additional stuff required.

That’s cool – I’ve always been in the minority; but I know I’m right. Show me an original 123 (76 to 85) with original LED brake lights and I’ll shut up. [^]

You sound like my dad. I told him about the brake light mod, he said "why would someone need to do that?" In fact, he tried to persuade me to change the rims on the W123 back to the original 14" bundt cake rims when I first got it, although I like the 15" flatface better on this particular model. He wants to keep the SD so stock, he doesn't like the idea of a Becker radio from an 86' W126 being in a 81 W126.[}:)] I don't quite understand his reasoning on the radio issue, but, it's his car.

As I’ve said before – I fail to see the point of owning these cars if one only tries to turn them into something else…[?]

I think making a small reversable modification to the brake light system for added safety is an attempt to keep the car "original". If I get rear ended because someone can't see my dinky dim brake lights then my car has to undergo extensive body repair rendering it unoriginal, or worse, totalled and removed from service. I have always been a proponent of keeping cars original, but there is a reason so many improvments have been made to the brake light systems on cars, OURS ARE NOT SAFE! In the immortal words of Billy Joel, you may be right, but you may be wrong.

Tiger, it appears that you have simply done the four brake light mod. Do you have dual filament bulbs or did you just add the extra brake lamp in the fog light socket like Karugs and I have already been talking about? I am planning on doing the "four brake light mod" to mine, and selling Karugs the sockets to do his also. What I would like to do is replace all the bulb sockets with sockets that accomodate dual filament bulbs so that I have six tail lights and six brake lights. Does anybody know if there are any dual filament sockets that will fit our cars? Sorry Tiger, but your pictures don't seem to answer my question. However, I must say I couldn't miss your brake lights on the freeway in a rain storm.

I agree, sort of, but why did Benz make the tail lights with the EXTRA holes for the light sockets if they weren't being used for something[?] Is it for ...Euro version???[?] I've wondered about that for a while.[8D]
