Hello,

When changing the oil filter I discovered another hose in bad state with signs of leaks.

For sure many of you should be thinking that I should replace of all them, but for economical reasons I prefer to fix it step by step.

Is the upper one in the first picture,in detail in the second one.

MERCEDES-BENZ A1408321094 0 score
HOSE,HEATVENT SYS,VLRUB A 140 832 10 94

So as I have to change the coolant,(20 liters)I will change the hose at the same time, should I buy in Mercedes, does anyone know the price?

Thanks.

Of course original MB parts are always better since they are already perfectly shaped for the use you need but then you have the economical part like you mention.
The other day I came across an Autostore here in Sydney where they had a section with all kind of heating hoses ,small - big- short & long once, all sizes & lengths , if I were you I buy the correct size for the Duo valve there you need in an Autostore ,if it saves you some money , buy a long hose of that size hoses ,then change all of them in one go by cutting that hose to perfect shape.
The hose you need there is not the kind of hose you would need from MB that is used on the Radiators Upper & Lower hose , those are specific but not the one you need there atm.
If your 600 has rear ac/heating , you have another duo valve behind the wheel trim with more hoses that could be due for replacement .
Hope this makes some sense to you .
BTW, DONT USE 20 LITRES OF COOLANT ,YOU ONLY NEED 3 BUT INITIALLY ONLY AD ABOUT 2 UNLESS YOU DRAIN THE ENGINE BLOCK (caps lock was on),Rest is Water.

Quick Question Jaimonides, Any idea how many 600SE's are left over there in Spain or Europe ? , here in Australia there's only one .:wink

These hoses appear to be original to the car and are likely going to be "crispy", i.e., the rubber will have lost its elastic properties.

It is very tight there and in the process of replacing the offender, you may disturb the other hoses. This could translate to a leak down the road. I'd recommend taking the duo-valve out, cleaning and inspecting it (they are known to fail), replacing all small hoses at the same time you flush the coolant system and put fresh antifreeze.

Step-by-step replacement of these components, IMHO, is unlikely to save you money.

Good luck,
Steve

Thanks Steve, you are right, all of them seems to be the original one, maybe a few are already leaking but the others must be in a similar status.

So its a good idea to check the most important ones and do it at the same time ,before the flush and change of all the coolant.

I dont understand this part,I am sorry

Hope the picture is clear(er).
There is no room, and likely you'll have to wiggle the duo valve when replacing the leaking hose (aka the offender)

Steve

PS You will have 2 (two) duo-valves if the car is equipped with second exchanger for the rear. Chris' pictures show where to find it

Jaimonides, Putting the Mercedes number into the web gives me the following: Search by original / genuine spare part number It is a German supplier and the price is 36.40 Euros. Putting that same part number into Mercedes of Atlanta and specifying a '92 S600 shows a lower hose for the "wye" fitting. Be very careful that you have the correct one. If it is the "wye" hose DEFINITELY CHANGE THEM ALL and the sooner the better. According to other forum members you have about 45 seconds before the coolant is dumped on the cobblestones and a new 12 cylinder engine is about 50,000 euros!

Thanks GUYS , you convinced me,I will get all the references and buy the parts.

Thanks Steve for the clarification,I imagine the function of those duo valves is related with the clima control of the car, right?

To get access to the Duo Valve behind the front wheel Trim cladding which is basically next to the accelerator on the outer side panel ( on my car RHD,yours is opposite side), Look at the pics below .
Open your door & look thru the gap to see nuts & clips if any , taking the cladding of can be a challenge, study how to remove the cladding trim 1st .
If your 600 has rear Air Conditioning & Heating , you will have the 2nd Duo Valve , the 1st one is on the ( facing engine) right side front behind headlight direction under the plastic protection or just look at that SLS reservoir ,should be close to that .
