Nice car - shame you still have to pay road tax for it. How much is it this year?

I've saved two 230CE's from the wrecking yard. One had a blown engine. The other collision damage. The bad engine was replaced with an engine from a 190E and the Four Speed manual was changed out for a Five Speed also from a 190E. I decided that the wrecked 230CE was too much work for me to repair.

The 300D was saved from a wrecking yard also. Three Grand Am's came from wrecking yards also.

Road tax has gone up quite a bit in the UK in the last few years. Still it could be worse - here in Holland you'd pay the same in road tax for one car as I assume you do for your three.

Your W123 would, however, be tax free here. Cars built before 1985 are road tax free in the Netherlands rather than 1973(?) in the UK.

Loads of 1980s cars must have already been scrapped in the UK. They are going to be really rare there soon especially as the road tax system is effectively punishing people for having old cars.

The system seems to be encouraging the "Why pay 230 GBP road tax a year for an old car when you can pay 600 GBP a month on an easy payment plan for a new French piece of junk with a lower road tax rate that will have to be scrapped after 5 years because the manufacturer will no longer make spare parts for it" mentality. I wonder why.
