Do you guys celebrate your ... car anniversary? February 15th would be 14 years of R129 ownership for me! I've owned 2 SL500s and have put ... uhm ... about 98K miles on both as of today. Any idea what I should do with the car?

I went to Skyline drive one day and saw an old gentlement taking his wife in a red R129 and I thought to myself I've got to have it. I knew nothing about cars back then (still know nothing about them now lol) but spent a fortune buying my first car without checking! I remember taking my girlfriend to see the car on Valentine's day. She wasn't too happy with me how we spent our valentine day). I went with my father and my friend the next day to pick it up. It felt so good on my way home (60 miles one way trip) although I had to work two jobs (and went to school full time) to make the car payment LOL. I was the only one in my area driving a R129 since Mercedes R129 was much more exclusive back then.

Never thought of owning any model for 14 years! With all the ABC issues on the W215, I don't think I will ever own it past 5 years.

I just wish the R129 comes with navigation and hardtop convertible.

How long have you had your R129? Any stories to share?

Wow, I feel bad not remembering this stuff, no clue without looking at the registration. I bought mine from my Dad when he got his new one, 2001. So, I guess it was around that time. Always loved the feel and drive of the car from day one. I just didn't get to drive it much back then.

I do remember my first date in it though. She was a beautiful girl and day. We did a nice drive through a curvy mountain road to enjoy the scenery with the top down, it was awesome. We ate at this great locally owned Italian restaurant. And she complained about the wind that had tussled her hair on the drive.

Well, she is gone and I still have the car! So that shows where my priorities are.
