Just noticed this on an '87 SEC for sale:

On my car, which I know is real and genuine from 1983, has the lettering raised and lower on the spoiler:

Is the SEC front spoiler the way the spoilers were done in the late '80s (I don't think so, but hey?) or is the first picture a bogus spoiler.

Whats pictured is correct. Some models had it raised.. others insert. All Gen 2's were inset. There are also 2 front spoiler lips on gen 2's... one without AMG in the middle.. and another with the same part number with inset engravings. The W123's had raised letterings just like your SL;)

I've got two Series 1 AMG front spoilers for the sedan and both have the recessed AMG logo.

The one on my car has the 'ears' going up the wheel arches and is made of the PUR polyurethane. The second does not have the 'ears', but is also PUR.

My Gen1-with-ears spoiler is with inset and not completely in the middle, but I noticed on other AMG front spoilers that it's not allways in the middle.
