It's pricey considering the condition, but thank you for sharing nonetheless of course. FYI for anyone interested, when I was looking at one that needed a re-wrap, the 2 or 3 shops I called all wanted $200-$250. It looks like the leather is cracking where the spokes meet the wheel on 2 or 3 of them.

Why I do not have one of these AMG steering wheels.

I have driven Bondavi's '84 500SEC euro AMG with this steering wheel, and its smaller size gives it a more immediate and controlling feel;

But AMG in both Gen I and II sacrificed the driver's air bag for this, and the Mercedes Benz w126 sedans and coupes are long distance high speed highway haulers more than racers, or sports cars, and their bus-sized stock steering wheels are excellent for long distance, as they allow you to rest your elbows on the door armrest and the center console armrest if you like, as you drive;

And I am an extremely high mileage driver, (even as a retired person!), with over 40,000 miles a year getting piled on my cars, so for this reason, and also the safety of the drivers side airbag, are the reasons that I have not installed an AMG steering wheel on my coupe.

But i understand and appreciate the reasons of those of you who have or are looking to do so.

Basically a matter of driving preference.

Ahhhh yes, the sacred gen 2 AMG bits :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

The only "period correct" AMG item that "graces" my 560sel is that GEN 2 momo steering wheel.

That style wheel makes the car much easier to throw around turns and drive much much "more spirited"!

However, I would gladly trade mine (in above average shape) for a GEN 2 AMG 126 sideskirts or ducktail.......

I think I measured the stock Gen2 steering wheel at some point and it came out to like 410mm outer to outer, or something close to that. What size is the AMG wheel? What's the smallest wheel anyone would put on there?

I like the large diameter steering wheels. They give you more granularity in control input - more precision. I drove a car with a small steering wheel recently; it felt like the tiniest turn of the wheel would create a hard turn. Then again, I'm used to the "bus wheel".

It only takes a little difference in size to make the driving experience really different. I think my Lorinser wheel is 405mm, it looks a lot smaller than standard but only 5 mil diff.
The car handles a whole lot better with it IMO, and feels completely different.
The other consideration I didn't think of before I swapped, was that resting your arm on the door armrest on long trips is less possible with a smaller wheel.

Edit: Got around to measuring my wheel earlier and it was 395mm, sorry for the inaccuracy.

my car is gen 1, no air bags, hated the old wheel, esp compared to this one, probably one of my favorite mods...it gets leather wipe every month, looks great,

SEC steering wheels are slightly smaller. I forgot whether it was 390 or 395mm?

Per herr doktor and my own measurement: Up to 08.1989 - 410 mm
From 09.1989 - 400 mm
Applicable to non-airbag wheels for the sedan

If the diameter is the main concern, you can place a Sportline steering wheel out of a W201/W124 which will also have an airbag.
