Hi all

I am a new member of the forums having recently purchased an E36 from a fellow UK enthusiast and to date (a week or so) I have been in awe of the car in all respects.

However, as my confidence has increased and I have started to explore the cars rather impressive performance levels, I have encountered a strange sensation that I would really appreciate some feedback on from other more experienced AMG E Class 210 owners.

I have found that the car is superb, very neutral handling all the way up until you reach three figure speeds and it becomes quite nervous and juddery (mainly at the rear) –*rather than being sure footed on the road. Now I have owned various sports cars in the past, although not running such big wheels etc, but wondered is this a trait of the vehicle?

Not that its a thing I do often but I would honestly be fairly nervous exploring any speeds exceeding 115mph, even though the car itself absolutely flys up to these speeds and wants to keep going. It has had two new tyres on the rear at the time of purchase, that I now wonder if they may be wrongly balanced, but I'd welcome any experiences or advice from anyone that might be able to shine a light on this subject for me i.e. how do your E36, 50, 55 drive in excess of 100mph?

Regards

Is your car an Avantgarde? The ride height setting is lower for the Euro models than the U.S. models.

Hi Adam

It is spec'ed as an Avantgarde spec. Does this effect the way the ride?

Cheers

Nath
The Avantgarde trim has a lower ride height than the Elegance or Classic trim. But I think all AMG E-Class gets the Avantgarde chassis to start with.

Cheers,
Adam

Welcome to the Board Mr Nu!
IMO it could be a combination of unbalanced tires and unproperly torque lug bolts that causing the wheel vibrations at high speeds have it check and re-torque the lugs bolts after 50 miles. You might wanna upgrade your suspension system for better handling, cornering..H&R Sport Spring & Bilstein Sport shocks are good combo. Btw, are those after market rims you have & what brand of tires you have? are all of them has the same brand? & what's the PSI?

Take care & enjoy the ride,

Hi JOE55

Thank you for the welcome, great forum by the way!

Thanks for the info regarding unbalanced tires + torque bolts, I'll start there I think. Handling wise the car is very good ,so I dont think its a suspension issue as such. Especially as it vibration is felt even in straight lines. The rims are standard AMG 18x8 incher's just like on the E55 only running 235x35 alround, not 255's.

However the tyres are different front to rear (not my choice) BF Goodrich fronts and Goodyear F1 rear. PSI wise I dont know and will check, but am I right thinking 33psi front / 31 rear psi rear?

Be grateful if you think any of the above could be adding to the issue. Its a small grumble but very annoying as I think the car is simply sensational... just got me thinking about an E55 now!

Thanks again

Mr Nu
