Read a bunch of good reviews this week on the new 3rd gen C63 (W205) - can't wait to drive it! Lots of journos comparing it to the M3. But this article is great, even better, skips the M3 altogether and just compares it to the naturally aspirated glory of the W204. May the 6.2L live forever!!!

W204 or W205??? That is the question...

Hi,

I just picked up my 2013 C63 AMG sedan two days ago with only 3500 miles and it is immaculate. However as I wander through the various MB forums, I see references to W204 and W205 versions of the C63, however I don't know which is my car, It was built in 3/2013 so does that help with knowing which model it is? Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am looking for tunes, wheels, and just basic accessories like seat covers and floor matts to protect a pristine car from going all wrong too quickly. If anyone can point me to the proper channels that would be sweet. My e-mail is 'howster01@yahoo.com'.

Thanks for your assistance

Cheers,

Howie

The thing with turbos is that they're very tuner-friendly. Just wait, and you'll see all the tuners easily cracking 600+HP on tune-only. But, the M156, IMO, is the best AMG V8 ever made, which is why I will buy a C63 coupe in the future.

it depends on what kind of driving you will be doing and how long you will keep the car. Twin turbos add a lot of parts to the engine bay. Many more chances that some hose, tube, turbo, regulator, cooler, and so on and on will go bad down the road. The N/a motor is way less complicated but a little more limited to performance upgrades with spending big $. Thw turbo is just a ECU flash away from more power and will make torque on demand with less reving the motor. I like both but lean towards turbos for the fun factor but I am in the market for a 204 c63 myself as the reasons stated above as I will keep it a few years and will perform well for what I will use the car for daily driving .

I could have waited for the 205 but once the 507 edition came out I pulled the trigger knowing the next iteration would use turbos. For the same reasons as mentioned above, I will probably keep mine for a long time and the sound is just music to me at startup and the drive. Not a big fan of the turbo whine or the tricked out exhaust on the 205 just to make it sound better.

I guess it all depends on what you are looking to get out of it. I have the M156 NA with a Kleeman tune that puts it at around 507HP and quite honestly I am not impressed. I am a giant binge buyer and bought my C63 on a whim and now I can't wait to move it out for something with more ponies for the buck. Just my opinion. I love driving my C300 though.
